This Ol' Mirror
by Stan C. Countz
I look in this ol’ mirror and see hollow eyes staring
at a broken man with broken dreams
It seems I’m gettin’ nearer as I stare in this ol’ mirror
but nothin’s ever as easy as it seems
This ol’ mirror is fallin’ apart
just like this ol’ heart
It goes against the grain
and it’s hard to mend the pain
of a broken man with a broken heart
She tore me apart; she shattered my heart
When I try to get up, I can’t seem to start
I’m feeling kind of queasy; I know it won’t be easy
But I gotta try to pick up the pieces of my broken heart
Lookin’ at myself in this broken ol’ mirror
I look like death warmed over but the day draws nearer
when I can start all over again
It may take a while, but this ol’ mirror
will see me smile once again
When I look in this ol’ mirror closely
I see hollow eyes looking back at me
My face looks worn and ghostly
This ol’ mirror is cracked and steamy
But one day it’s gonna see me smile
This ol’ mirror is fallin’ apart just like this ol’ heart
It goes against the grain and it’s hard to mend the pain
of a broken man with a broken heart
but I need to start somewhere and I guess
now’s as good a time as ever
I wanna trade my tears for laughter
to start a brand new chapter in my life
and this time she’s not in it; I’m turnin’ over a new leaf
It’ll take more than a minute, I need some love and relief
I’m in this game to win it, but I need some time for grief
But this ol’ mirror one day will see me smile again
Maybe as they carry me down the aisle
or when I've walked that last and final mile
maybe then you'll see me smile but, by then,
I won’t need this ol’ mirror again
